A

1-Tissue under skin (i.e. a bite where skin is broken)
2-Body fluid in contact with non-intact skin (cut, chapped or abraded skin)
3-Body fluid in contact with mucous membranes (eyes, nose, mouth, lungs)

A

Any unprotected exposure with an agent that may cause illness or disease (i.e. needle stick injury, mucous membranes, failure of protective equipment)

List several High Risk Sources

A
  • Known HIV, HCV, HBV positive
  • IV drug / alcohol abuser
  • Homeless population
  • Multiple sexual partners
  • Sex worker
  • Immigrant from high endemic area (i.e. Africa) or recent travel
  • Source had blood transfusion, blood product, or organ transplant between 1979-1985
  • Same-sex, sexual activity
  • Current or recent imprisonment
  • Infants born to HIV infected women
