What is the purpose of the RIT SOG?
To establish guidelines to provide an organized method of locating, rescuing or assisting trapped, missing or endangered personnel.
When will a RIT be automatically dispatched?
An apparatus with a fully qualified RIT shall be automatically dispatched to any known structure fire.
When shall a RIT be established?
A Rit shall be established as soon as possible, when personnel are working in a hot zone or whenever the IC deems it necessary.
When may a RIT not be necessary at a structure fire?
if the structure fire is being fought defensively.
When can the RIT be terminated?
Where a fire is fought offensively and is under control, the IC shall use their discretion as to when the need for the RIT might be terminated.
How many RITs are required at an incident?
A Rit is not required for every sector making entry into a hot zone, but more than one RIT may be required if resources are available depending on the size and geographical layout of the incident.
What does a RIT consist of?
At least 3 personnel of the Firefighting Division that have passed a BFES approved RIT course.

2- Securing a poet supply
3- Preparing lighting
4- Ensuring multiple means of egress, i.e. laddering windows, roofs, removing obstacles-bars, chains, locks, etc.
What must the RIT team be cognizant of in Level 2 RIT operations?
that opening windows or roofs may adversely affect ventilation operations. the RIT shall consult with the IC and any crews performing ventilation operations prior to making rescue openings.
