26-03 Flashcards
Wear SCBA when….
…if there is a potential of exposure to an inhalation hazard.
Wear a chemical suit if….
there is a potential of exposure to a skin toxin: a corrosive or poison absorbed through the skin.
Rescue in Hazmat situations with bunker gear?
FF gear is easily penetrated by hazmats. Under extreme cautions; i.e. a rescue, and after a thorough hazard risk analysis, regular FF gear might be used, where there might be exposure to skin toxins. Wear surgical gloves and latex rubber gloves instead of leather gloves.
Wear a fully encapsulated suit under the following conditions (6)
1-It is specifically recommended by a competent source, such as the Initial Emergency Response Guide or CANUTEC
2-There is a potential for contact with level 4 health hazard toxin
3-There is a potential for splash from a skin toxin
4-There is a potential for exposure to a high airborne concentration(above the IDLH) of a skin toxin
5-There is a potential for contact with unidentified chemicals
6-there is a potential for contact with several skin toxins
Check all chemical suits for their______ ______
Chemical resistance
If several hazmats are present or hazmats are not listed in the resistance charts.
Consult a chemist for advice.
Do not use chemical suits for entry into hot zone, if….
the break through time is equal or less than 30mins
Normally choose the _________ over the ________ suits
Trellchem HPS over the Chemrell Max suits
Use disposable suits instead of the reusable if….
the hazmat cannot be easily decontaminated.
Preferably choose persons with experience wearing the suits.
Do not allow someone to wear a chemical suit who(15)
1-Claustrophobic in a chemical suit 2-dehydrated 3-suffering from dizziness or nausea 4-suffering from diarrhea 5-suffering from fever 6-suffering from sunburn 7-obese 8-physically unfit 9-medically unfit i.e. heart condition 10-under the influence of alcohol 11-under the affect of drugs, which may interfere with his/her ability to work or regulate body temperature 12-resps exceeding 20 13-heart rate exceeding 100 14-systolic bp >150mmHg and diastolic bp >100mmHg 15-Oral temp. exceeding 100.6 F or 38.1 C
Overseeing the donning ops
A sector officer should be assigned to oversee donning operations
Donning Area
will normally be located on the drivers side of H204. Under conditions of cold/heat or precipitation, the awning should be utilized.
All equipment placed on ground cover.
Lay out ground cover. All protective equipment, to be used, is placed on the ground cover.
Provide water….
to ensure that suit wears ar hydrated before completely donned.
Dessers assigned to suit wearers
Each person being dressed must have at least one dresser assigned to them.
