Q

Rescue in Hazmat situations with bunker gear?

A

FF gear is easily penetrated by hazmats. Under extreme cautions; i.e. a rescue, and after a thorough hazard risk analysis, regular FF gear might be used, where there might be exposure to skin toxins. Wear surgical gloves and latex rubber gloves instead of leather gloves.

16
Q

Jewellery or other objects

A

Persons wearing chemical suits shall remove all jewellery or other objects, which might damage the suits before donning the suits.

17
Q

Chemical suits exposed to fire

A

Never use chemical suits where they may be exposed to fire or the potential of fire.

18
Q

Low temperatures

A

Do not expose chemical suits to temperatures below -25F (-31 C), as might be produced by expanding liquefied gases. Under these conditions, use appropriate thermal protection

19
Q

Do not use chemical suits after expiration of their shelf lives

A

7 years for Trellchem HPS

3 years for Chemrell Max GT

20
Q

Inspect suits before donning

A

Visually

21
Q

Use of Chemical suits beyond resistance period.

A

Do not use chemical suits beyond their estimated resistance period

22
Q

Needless exposure to Hazmats

A

Do not needlessly expose suits to direct contact with hazmat.

23
Q

Rough Objects

A

Do no kneel, sit or lean against rough or sharp surfaces, while in a suit.

24
Q

Take every reasonable precaution to protect the suits from …..

A

….Tears, punctures or abrasions

25
Q

Direct Sunlight

A

When dressed in a chemical suit, avoid location unprotected from direct sunlight, if heat stress is a threat.

26
Q

Heat stress

A

Be observant of signs and symptoms of heat stress of exposure to the hazmat

27
Q

Inspection of Chemical Suits

A
  • Inspect al reusable chemical suits, gloves and boots monthly
  • Inspect all chemical suits, gloves and boots prior to donning
  • Inspect reusable chemical suits, gloves and boots after use, prior to being put back in service
  • Inspect disposable suits before returning to storage, if worn but no exposed to hazmat
  • All equipment failing inspection should be repaired, if possible, or taken out of service. The Deputy shall be notified anytime equipment is taken out of service.
28
Q

Disposable suits for more than 1 exposure

A

Do not use disposable suits for more than one exposure to hazmat. After the one exposure, treat the suits as hazardous waste.

29
Q

Do not use reusable suits for entry at the same incident if

A

1-There was an exposure tot he hazmat equalling or exceeding the break through time
2-The break through time was estimated
3-There was an exposure to a level 4 health hazard or a carcinogen
4-There was contact or the hazmat splashes or gaseous hazmat under pressure
5-There was contact of hazmat with the inside of the suit, as might occur during doffing
6-The ambient temperature exceeded 100F (38C)
7-There is any damage or visible wear tot he suit, as determined by a visual inspection
8-The suit is within 2 years of its shelf life(over 5 yrs for HPS)

30
Q

Maintenance and Storage of Chemical Suits

A

1-After an incident, rewash reusable chemical suits, and hang in the 204 shed for 3 days. Inspect suits and pressure test the suits before returning the suits to service
2-Do not sort chemical suits, boots or gloves where they might be exposed to direct sunlight or high ozone levels, as might be produced by electrical motors
3-Where possible, leave disposable suits in their original packaging, until needed at an incident.
4-Keep the chemical suit storage area and ins free from dust, moisture or chemicals
5-Lubricate suit zippers after pressure testing
6-Protect the suits from contact with sharp or rough objects
