24-06 Flashcards
Bonding and Grounding SOG - When shall this guideline be adhered to.
The guideline shall be adhered to by all personnel, when transferring combustible liquids with a flash point above 37 degrees C (100 degrees F), i.e. diesel fuel, home heating oil.
What is the purpose of the Bonding and Grounding SOG?
To establish a safe grounding/bonding procedure for transferring combustible liquids from drum to vehicle, vehicle to vehicle or vehicle to storage tank.
The Grounding/Bonding Sequence when using a Pump.
1-Bond the damaged tank and the receiving tank using a bonding/grounding cable
2-Ground the damaged tank by first hooking the grounding cable to the tank and then, connecting to a ground pole at a remote point.
3-Ground the receiving tank by first hooking up the grounding cable to the tank, and then connect to the same grounding pole
4-Ground the pump using a grounding cable and then, connect the cable to the same grounding pole
5-Using the Ohm meter, check all ground and bonding cable connections for continuity. The reading on the Ohm meter should read less than 0.3 ohms
6-After connections are made at the pump, place the suction hose into the damaged tank and the discharge hose into the receiving tank
7-Start the transfer and check for any leaks, monitor pump and the transfer, keeping watch on levels in the receiving tank
8-After completion of transfer, drain all hoses and pump, avoid spillage and disassemble in the reverse order of the procedure.
