Define enclosed structure.
An enclosed structure is one in which there is a limited number of doors and windows sufficient in size and number to provide adequate emergency evacuation.
Define a large structure.
A large structure is considered one that is approximately 30m (100’) by 30m (100’) or greater in size.
What is the procedure for a Large Enclosed Structure fire. (list5)
1- As part of the initial size-up, the first arriving Captain shall identify the building as a large enclosed structure
2- Consider requesting additional apparatus/alarms
3- Consider alternative entrances to limit hose line lengths to less than 60m (200’) into a building
4- All personnel shall attempt to identify the presence of trusses, whether they are steel or wooden, and whether the fire/heat is impinging on the trusses. This information shall be communicated to the IC
5- When interior visibility is diminished and/or conditions warrant, the IC shall consider upgrading to Level 2 RIT status, as per SOG 03-12.
