Hydro Gloves
Insulated rubber gloves that are Class 0 and rated for 1000 volts of protection.
The Hydro glove ensemble consists of
1-Inner safety rubber gloves
2-Outer leather protectors
Note: both parts shall always be worn together.
Hydro gloves be found in the following locations:
1-Squads (1 pair each) 2-Techinical Rescue Truck (1 pair) 3-P201, P206 (one pair on each) 4-Facility Maintenance Vehicle (1 Pair) 5-Training Division (1 pair)
All personnel shall use hydro gloves to provide a safe barrier against contact for tasks such as the following:
1-Operating disconnect switches at potentially energized electrical panels and switches where the electrical panel is less than 750 volts and has not been compromised or damaged. Flash protection is also required to be worn.
2-Dealing with electrical or hybrid vehicles where the high voltage components or cables are suspected to be damaged and/or the high voltage fuse needs to be removed.
Storage of Electrical Gloves
- The rubber gloves and outer gloves shall be stored in a canvass pouch in a clean, dry, cool, well ventilated location on the vehicles where it will not be subject to damage or punctured.
- The canvass pouches and the leather gloves shall be marked with the appropriate vehicles designation to which they are assigned
- Rubber gloves shall not be marked with vehicle designation to which they are assigned.
When should the gloves be inspected.
the rubber gloves and leather gloves shall be inspected on the first day of each tour by the on-duty Platoon. i.e. Monday morning, thursday night, Saturday morning
During inspection, personnel shall examine the following:
1-Test date of the rubber gloves
2-If more than 6 months have passed since the last test, remove from service
3-The leather gloves shall be checked for any holes or excessive wear.
Prior to use
- The hydro glove ensemble shall be inspected prior to donning as per the regulation
- The leather gloves shall be checked for excessive wear
- Prior to donning the rubber gloves shall be inspected visually for the following - test date(if more than 6 months since last test remove from service) - if gloves have damage, remove from service and send for testing - if gloves need replacing for any reason, the respective PC shall be notified.
Donning
- The hydro glove ensemble shall be donned outside the hazardous area.
- The leather gloves shall always be worn over the rubber gloves
- Hydro gloves may be donned at multiple incidents provided they first pass a visual inspection.
Testing/Rubber Glove Exchange
- The designated PC shall establish and maintain the schedule for testing and the exchanging of rubber gloves
- Replacement hydro gloves are to be purchased and stored at the A&M Division.
