23-02 Flashcards
Updating key holder list.
It is the responsibility of personnel responding to alarms to attempt to update the existing key-holder list for the involved premise.
Once the determination is made that access cannot be gained to the occupancy the IC shall…
1-Confirm that a key-holder has been notified
2-Confirm the time of the notification
3-Confirm the estimated time of arrival for the key-holder
Procedure for a premise that is secure with alarm bells ringing.
1-Confrim attempts to contact a key-holder have been made, note the time of notification, the ETA of the key holder
2-Personnel should perform a 360 of the premise, if possible
3-Perform a thorough exterior check, using the TIC, to ensure no fire hazard or medical problem exists and to determine the cause of the alarm
4-Wait 30mins for a key-holder(from the time the call was received). Apparatus is “available” while waiting. Wait times in excess of 30mins will be at the discretion of the IC
5-If Key holder does not respond and access cannot be gained to the premise, upon completion of their checks a NTR is to be left in prominent place and leave the incident scene. NTR’s for residential alarms are for the homeowners info only, they should be noted as such and will not require any further follow-up.
When should forcible entry be made?
If access cannot be made through normal means forcible entry should occur if:
- There are visible signs of fire.
- There is a visible, steady, uninterrupted water flow
- There is an obvious potential for an immediate danger to life or property (example strong odour of flammable gas)
- There is a reasonable possibility that a medical emergency prompted the alarm.
Who should the IC notify when forcible entry has been made?
The IC shall notify Fire Control anytime forcible entry has been used to gain access to a premise.
When notified that forcible entry has been used to gain access to the secured premise, Fire control shall notify:
- PRP
- The Alarm Monitoring Company
- The On-duty Platoon Chief
When personnel have attended a occupancy and no key holder was met, a follow up visit should occur either by on-duty fire personnel of a fire Prevention Officer within a reasonable time period in order to:
- Update key-holder lists
- Ensure the issued NTR has been received and understood
- Advise the owner/occupants or their reps with regard to the correction of their system deficiencies
- Make the owner/occupant aware of the key-box system
- Tour the premise for familiarization purposes and answer any questions
