A

Future and new me tees will be provided an opportunity to acquaint themselves with the new/potentially new position of Captain for 80 hours, while under the direct supervision of a Captian.

Who is eligible to be a part of the Fire captains mentoring program?(2)

A

1- personnel who are eligible to write the next Captain’s exam or new Acting Captians may initiate the process by requesting it through their Captains.
2- New Acting Captians that have successfully completed the Captians exam are eligible to enter the program

How do you qualify for the mentoring program?

A

Successfully completing a 50 question exam that is provided by the division of training.
Must attain 70%
The exam will be proctored by the mentoring Captian
Upon successful completion of the exam the exam will be sent to the Division of Training and the respective DC shall be notified.

What is the Process for the Captain and the Dc?(list 8)

A

1- the respective Captain may oversee the mentoring process and assist the mentee as required
2- the captain shall advise their DCS that the mentees will be assuming the capts role within the mentoring program
3- the DC shall facilitate the mentoring program
4- the mentor shall ensure that the mentee works and supervises personnel is a safe manner and according to SOGs and department procedures.
5- both the captain and the mentee shall keep in constant communication with each other while at an incident
6- if at any time the Captain feels it is warranted, the Captain shall assume the Capts role, allowing the mentee to assume his/her usual responsibilities
7- the Captian shall provide feedback to the mentee to encourage improvement. At all times the captain should use discretion when providing advice or criticism around the public or other personnel
8- the captain may use supplied check sheets to provide feedback regarding the handling of incidents

What shall the mentee do?(list 8)

A

1- shall work and supervise the crew in a safe manner and according to SOGs and department procedures
2-the mentees shall assign personnel their apparatus positions
3- shall respond to and conduct themselves at all calls and/or stand-bys in the Captains position
4- shall relinquish control of the scene to his/her Captain of it deemed necessary
5- shall assign hall duties as required
6- shall organize all training
7- shall complete all required reports and paperwork
8- shall complete the Mentoring Program training session reporting
