Hazardous gases, especially those released during fires, pose a significant threat to the health of personnel. Even short-term exposures may have chronic and/or latent effects. Many hazardous gases are not detectable through the senses and a clear atmosphere is not necessarily a safe environment. When in doubt, personnel shall default to protecting themselves with SCBA.

When shall all personnel utilize SCBA?

Where it is suspected or has been determined that the atmosphere may be Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health, or where the wearing of the respirator is mandated by applicable regulations. Refer to the Respiratory Protection Program Manual.

All personnel shall ensure that temples on eyeglasses, or any other materials such as hair, cloth, tissue, straps. or jewellery shall not come between the sin and sealing surface of the face piece or interfere with the operation of the respirator.
