Smoke Alarm Inst. SOG - Define Basement
Means any storey below the first storey.
Smoke Alarm Inst. SOG - Dwelling Unit.
Shall mean one or more habitable rooms designed or intended to be used together as a single and separate housekeeping unit by one person or jointly by two or more persons, containing its own kitchen and sanitary facilitates, with a private entrance.
Smoke Alarm Inst. SOG - Residential Occupancy
Means the occupancy or use of a building or [art thereof by persons for whom sleeping accommodation is provided but who are not harboured or detained to receive medical care or treatment or are not involuntary detained.
Smoke Alarm Inst. SOG - Smoke Alarm
Means a battery or electrically powered combined smoke detection device and audible alarm device that,
- is designed to sound an alarm upon detection of products of combustion, and
- is equipped with an indicator which provides a readily visible or audible indication that the device is in operating condition, and
- Has been approved by the Underwriters Laboratories of Canada and, where electrically powered, also by the CSA
At an occurrence, the Officer makes not the residence does not comply with Fire Code….
At the discretion of the Officer on scene at an occurrence in a residential occupancy he/she shall check to ensure that the home complies with the Ontario Fire Code and contains a working smoke alarm on each storey of the dwelling unit including the basement. If it is discovered that the home does not comply with fire Code the officer shall notify the owner/occupant of such condition.
If the owner/occupant is unable to provide the required smoke alarms or batteries…..
the officer shall provide the owner/occupant with a smoke alarm or batteries so there are working smoke alarms on every storey of the home.
If the owner occupant is not able to install the smoke alarm or batteries the firefighting crew shall……
shall assist with the installation utilizing the Smoke Alarm Installation Kit while available at the scene. The Fire Fighting Devision may be called to assist an fop and/or FLSO with the installation of a smoke alarm subject tot he availability of the fire crew. In all cases the BFES smoke Alarm Installation Waiver and Battery/smoke alarm Replacement Forms shall be completed, scanned and forwarded to fire life@brampton.ca
In all cases where it is discovered there are no working smoke alarms ……
BFES fire Prevention shall be notified by forwarding details of the incident to the fire prevention general mailbox at fire.prevention@brampton.ca
