What is the purpose of the Emergency Evacuation SOG?
To ensure the quick notification of all those who need to leave an area of danger
List the sequence to be followed when the need to evacuate is apparent. (list 11)
-any BFES member at an incident may initiate an emergency evacuation message where there is an immediate need to evacuate persons from a structure/area. the evacuation procedure should normally be initiated by the IC
-during the implementation of the emergency evacuation system, the IC should consider the elimination of any sources of noise that may prevent hearing the alert. i.e. PPV, generators, pumps. Consideration must also be given to the possible negative impact of shutting off any equipment.
-the IC (or the person initiating the alert) shall initiate the message by requesting an emergency alert tone from Fire Control.
-Fire Control shall activate the emergency tone
-after completion of the tone, the initiator shall declare:
“Evacuate, evacuate, evacuate, all personnel at (state the address)
- the nearest apparatus to the hot zone is to sound its air horns using 3-3sec blasts
-hand held air horns may be deployed by the RIT using 3-3 sec blasts at the most effective location outside the hot zone. Ear damage could result if directed at anyone within close range
-all personnel shall evacuate the hot zone and each sector Officer shall conduct a visual check of their personnel to ensure all personnel are accounted for.
-the IC shall call a PAR
-if all personnel are not accounted for , the evacuation procedure will be repeated at the discretion of the IC.
-If there is still no response from any member, a MAYDAY shall be called and operations conducted accordingly.
