Sun Aug 2 Flashcards
whcih immunodeficieny involves chronic loose stools? (diarrhea)
SCID
Presentation of SCID?
- several bacteria & viral infections in infancy
- mucocutaneous candiadiasis
- chronic diarhea
Clinical findings of SCID?
- low or absent CD3 t cells
- hypogammaglobulinemia
- thymic hypoplasia or aplasia
X linked (brutons) agammaglobulinemia is an immunodeficiency that results in insufficient production of what?
Mature B cells
are t cells normal in X linked (brutons) agammaglobulinemia ?
yes -thymus is fine. Will have thymic shadow
what causes wiskott-aldrich syndrome?
abnormal cytoskeleton functioning resulting in abnormal t and b cells
presentation of wiskott-aldrich syndrome?
- reccurent infections, gets worth with age
- easy bleeding
- eczema
why are highly lipophilhic drugs poorly eliminated by the kidneys?
they can readily cross the tubules to be reabsorbed
why are highly lipophilic drugs better eliminated by the liver?
they can easily cross cellular barriers and enter the hepatocytes, to be excreted in bile, etc.
Severe diarhhea results in substantial loss of..
bicarb
what is donepezil?
Ach esterase inhibitor - increases Ach - used in alzheimers
Cardiac A/E of donepezil?
Donepezil increases your PNS activity, and may precipitate bradycardia and heart block in older patients (age related degeneration of the conduction system) ->decreased CO and syncope
what type of bacteria is bacterioides?
Gram negative anearobic rods
what muscles inserts onto the greater trochanter?
gluteus medius and gluteus minimus
what muscle inserts onto the lesser trochanter?
illiopsoas
inheritance of androgenetic alopecia?
polygenic
how do aminoglycosides distribute in the body?
Large charged molecule - limited to extracellular space
what will the cardiac index be initially in someone with distributive shock (sepsis)?
CI is increased - pumps harder to make up for hypotension
what will the mixed venous saturation O2 of the blood be in someone with distributive shock?
Increased - the fast flow rates from increased CI prevents complete extraction of oxygen from tissues
does renal tubular acidosis cause normal anion gap or increased anion gap metabolic acidosis?
normal anion gap acidosis
