Q

AVR Auto mode, what it does

A

Monitors generator PT and CT to control converter thyristor firing to control generator voltage. Internal PSS function dampens low frequency power oscillations.

7
Q

Make changes slowly when in manual because……

A

It is easier to overshoot when in manual and changes may take longer to fully manifest.

8
Q

How will AVR respond to a grid voltage reduction?

A

AVR senses the voltage reduction and raises field current to attempt to improve grid stability. MVARS rise

15
Q

What could happen if you reset an AVR fault with the unit online?

A

The AVR could trip off which would cause a generator, turbine and possibly a reactor trip.

16
Q

What is the purpose of the underexcitation limiter?

A

Mitigates risk of desynchronizing due to unstable operation.

17
Q

What is purpose of minimum field current limiter?

A

Minimizes risk of rotor overheating

18
Q

Where is PSS controlled from? When required?

A

ECT and >10% turbine power
