Hydromorphone Mechanism
Medscape:
Mu-opioid receptor agonist; inhibits ascending pain pathways, thus altering response to pain; main therapeutic action is analgesia. Other pharmacologic effects include respiratory depression and sedation; suppresses cough by acting centrally in medulla
Capital:
Binds to opiate receptors in central nervous system to cause analgesia and euphoria.
New Britain:
Opioid R agonist, causes hyperpolarization of the interneurons and decreased release of neurotransmitters responsible to transmission of pain impulses to the thalamus and cerebral cortex

0.5-1 mg IV/IO, every 5 minutes to a total 4 mg titrated to
pain relief
