Albuterol Classification?
Beta-2 Agonist, Sympathomimetic
Albuterol Mechanism?
Beta-2 receptor agonist with limited beta-1 activity; relaxes bronchial smooth muscle with little effect on heart rate. Inhibits the release of hypersensitivity mediators from cells, especially mast cells.
Albuterol Indications?
Bronchospasm associated with reversible obstructive airway disease (RAD, asthma, COPD).
Albuterol Contraindications?
Hypersensitivity, severe hypersensitivity to milk proteins.
Albuterol Side Effects/Precautions?
Hypokalemia, tremors, nervousness, nausea, paradoxical bronchospasm, headache, dizziness, cough, dry mouth.
Albuterol Adult Dose?
2.5 mg every 5 minutes up to 3 total doses
Albuterol Pediatric Dose?
PALS
2.5 mg (wt <20kg or 5mg (wt >20) q 20 mins.

Albuterol Onset of Action?
30 min.-2 hrs;
