BMS03-1012 Chemical Signalling 1 Flashcards
Name 4 metabolic regulators
Insulin
Adrenaline
Glucagon
Cortisol
Name 3 hormones/growth factors
Progesterone
Growth hormone
Nerve growth hormone
Name 3 inflammatory mediators
Cytokines
Thromboxanes
Prostaglandins
What is autocrine signalling?
Calls responding to things they released themselves
Ionotropic
Ligand gated ion channels e.g. nicotinic
Metabotropic
G protein e.g. adrenaline
Catalytic
Tyrosine kinase e.g. insulin
Give 2 examples of an effector enzyme
Adenylyl cyclase
Phospholipase C
Give 2 examples of a 2nd messenger
cAMP
IP3
When are G protein active?
When bound to GTP as it releases the alpha subunit
What does the alpha sub unit do?
Regulate effector enzymes which makes a second messenger
What is the functional role for cAMP?
Activate cAMP dependant PKA causing it to break up so it can be phosphorylated and regulate gene expression and signalling actions
What does B adrenergic stimulation result in? (positively and negatively)
Activate
Glycogen phosphorylase kinase to activate glycogen phophorylase to increase glycogen break down
Inhibit glycogen synthase to decrease glycogen synthesis
What g protein, effector and 2nd messenger is used for B adrenergic?
Gs
Adenylyl cyclase
Increase cAMP
What g protein, effector and 2nd messenger is used for cannabinoid?
Go
Adenylyl cyclase
Decrease cAMP
