Definition humidex
describes how hot, humid weather feels to the average person. the humidex combines the temperature and humidity in to one number to reflect the perceived temperature. Because it take into account the two most important factors that affect summer comfort it can be a better measures of how stuffing the air feel than either temperatures or humidity alone
Policy #5.08 Extreme Weather policy
Definition- heat warning
-issued when 2 consecutive days of daytime maximum temperatures are expected to reach 31c or more and nighttime minimum temperatures are expected to fall 20c or higher. it is also issued when 2 consecutive days of humidex values are expected to reach 40c or more

Definition- Extending heat warning
same as a heat warning except 3 days
- day over 31c
- night over 20c
- humidex 40+

Definition- Extreme cold warning
is issued when the temperature or wind chill is expected to reach minus 30 for a minimum of 2 hours

Definitions Severe thunderstorms- when conditions are favourable for the development of Severe thunderstorms with one or more of the following conditions (2)
- wind gust of 90klm or greater which could cause structural wind damage
- hail of 2 centimeters or larger in diameter, or heavy rainfall, as per rainfall criteria, excluding those for winter and During thaw

prior to the start of any outdoor training exercises, examinations or any outdoor non0emergency events the supervisor in charge will review the following information sources for the environmental weather conditions of the day

when outdoor training exersises , examinations ole any outdoor non emergecny events have been planned and a heat warning, extended heat warning, extreme cold warning or severe thunderstorm warning is in effect, these activites
shall be postponed

– all supervisors must be aware of the conditions their employees are working under and shall
exercise caution and discretion when scheduling outdoor training exercises, examinations or events During extreme weather

as the temperature approaches or reaches 31c considerations must be made to postpone or reschedule the outdoor training exercises, examinations or events if
PPE is going to be worn (ie Bunker gear hazmat suit)

if appropriate for the outdoor training exersices , examinations, or events to continue, (3)
- be aware of signs and symptoms of heat cramps, heat exhaustion. and heat stroke
- a rest area is to be setup away from the activity and should be shaded or air conditions, if physical activities have taken place the rest time duration shall equal the activity time duration
- ensure cool drinking water is available

other considerations for when outdoor training exercises, examinations or events should be postponed or cancelled (2)
- ministry of environment issues a smog alert
- environment Canada issues a humidex advisory, several thunderstorms- watch/ warning, extreme cold warning or a winter storm watch/ warning

if a heat warning occurs while outdoor training exercises, examinations or any outdoor non-profit emergency events are in progress and the outside temperature is below 31c,
the activities may continue until such time that the temperature reaches 31c
