Hard Time
1 – Comecemos com o mais básico: hard time quer dizer “tempo difícil” ou “momento difícil”.
2 – Algo menos óbvio: hard time também se refere a “tempo de cadeia”. Se você vir a expressão facing hard time, pode traduzir aí: “defrontando-se com tempo de cadeia”, ou, em tradução mais fluente, “em risco de ir para a cadeia”.
3 – To have a hard time doing something é “ter dificuldades em fazer algo” ou “achar difícil (de) fazer algo”. É uma expressão muito comum, muito mesmo. Uma versão é dizer to have a hard of it, quando você não necessariamente menciona a ação que implica dificuldades. Por exemplo: — How was school? — Not good, I had a hard time of it.
4 – Finalmente, to give someone a hard time é “incomodar” ou “ficar incomodando” alguém — geralmente, mas nem sempre, através de críticas ou admoestações. Isso também pode se aplicar a nós mesmos, quando ficamos “nos recriminando” por algo.

Talvez seja a pressão, talvez o começo de uma virose, talvez seja só aquele pastel super engordurado que você deglutiu às pressas em vez de almoçar direito — na hora estava bom, mas agora está fazendo você sofrer… seja como for, é nesses casos que você diz que está “meio mal” ou “indisposto”. Pois é em casos assim também que usamos out of sorts!
2 – Às vezes também há algo que está nos incomodando, que nos deixa facilmente irritados com tudo e com todos. Quando você está sofrendo dessa irritação, também podemos dizer que está out of sorts: “rabugento”, “irritável”, “irritadiço”.
I’ve been feeling tired and headachy and generally out of sorts.
Eu tenho estado me sentindo cansado, com dor de cabeça e, no geral, meio doente.
