What is this describing?
High pitch noise heard in inspiration from partial obstruction at the larynx or large airways.
Stridor
What are the clinical features that accompany stridor?
- Swallowing difficulty/drooling
- Pallor/cyanosis
- Use of accessory muscles
- Tracheal tug
What is causing the stridor presentation described?
Sudden onset, young child well but struggling to breathe, acute cough, choking.
Foreign body
What is causing the stridor presentation described?
Harsh, coryza, low grade temperature but otherwise well, occurs at night, barking cough.
Viral croup
What is causing the stridor presentation described?
Variable, intermittent, child otherwise well, happening since birth, last one feeding all with URTI.
Laryngomalacia
What is causing the stridor presentation described?
2-6 years old, soft stridor, very unwell, flushed or pale, sitting upright, drooling saliva, high temperature, no cough.
Epiglottitis
What is causing the stridor presentation described?
Harsh, urticaria, lip swelling, wheeze, shock, sudden onset, atopy.
Anaphylaxis
What is causing the stridor presentation described?
Harsh, unwell, high temperatures, barking cough.
Bacterial tracheitis
