What is Osgood-Schlatter Disease?
Pain and swelling of the tibial tuberosity at the site of insertion of the patellar ligament.
What is the underlying aetiology of Osgood-Schlatter disease?
Multiple subacute microavulsion fractures of the tuberosity before the fusion of the tibial growth plate and the ossification centre of the tibial tuberosity.
What is this a presentation of?
10 to 16 years old, active boy, repetitive use of quadriceps muscle rapid adolescent growth spurt. Knee pain after repetitive running or jumping, localised point tenderness at tibial tuberosity, lump over tibial tuberosity, full range of movement at the knee.

How is Osgood-Schlatter Disease diagnosed?
Clinical diagnosis, the x-ray shows tibial tuberosity enlargement and may exclude other pathologies.
What is the management of Osgood-Schlatter disease?
Self-limiting, treat with rest analgesia and stretching exercises.
