What causes pyloric stenosis, when does it present, and which groups is it more common in?
A
- Caused by hypertrophy of pyloric muscle
- Presents at 3-8 weeks of life.
- More common in Caucasians and males.

What is this a presentation of?
Forceful, projectile vomiting after feeds (non-bilious), constipation. Hungry, dehydrated, malnourished baby.

How is pyloric stenosis diagnosed?
A
- Peristaltic waves seen travelling across abdomen during feed
- Firm olive sized pass in epigastric area
- Hypokalaemic, hypochloraemic metabolic alkalosis
- Raised bicarbonate
- Confirmed on abdominal USS

A
- Correct electrolyte disturbances
