A
Cerebellum (60%)

What are the three main types of CNS tumours and where do they arise from?
A
- Gliomas - glial cells in the brain or spinal cord
- Embryonal tumours (medulloblastomas) - cerebellum
- Craniopharyngiomas - remnants of Rathke’s pouch

What is the largest subgroup of gliomas?
A
Astrocytomas - mostly low grade diagnosed throughout childhood, high survival rate.

What are the general clinical features of CNS tumours?
A
- Vomiting
- Morning headache in >5 years/irritability in <5 years
- Abnormal gait, balance and/or coordination
- Behavioural change, lethargy, seizures
- Abnormal eye movement or squint
- Blurry/double vision - papilloedema on fundoscopy
- Increasing head circumference in <18 months
- Developmental delay/deterioration in school work
