What are the steps for paediatric basic life support?

A
  1. Assess for danger and remove you and child from danger.
  2. Response - shout in both ears, trap squeeze.
  3. Shout for help
  4. Head tilt, chin lift
  5. 5 rescue breaths first
  6. If still not breathing - 15 chest compressions : 2 rescue breaths

How should you do chest compressions in children and at what age do you start using the adult method?

What should you do in a child if the chest does not rise after you give rescue breaths?

A
  1. Consider respiratory obstruction
  2. Do 5 intrascapular back blows with child on lap, then 5 more rescue breaths.
  3. If nothing still and child >1 year old, position supine and give 5 abdominal thrusts.
