- Embryonal tumour of retinal cells

What is this a presentation of?
Leukocoria (white pupil), often noted in flash photos of the child or during routine ophthalmoscopy, white pupillary reflex instead of the normal red reflex, squint.

How is a retinoblastoma diagnosed?
A
- Clinical appearance under general anaesthetic
- Biopsy NOT required
- USS/MRI may be required to stage the disease

What is the management for a retinoblastoma?
A
- Small tumours - local cryotherapy or laser therapy
2. Large tumours - chemotherapy or removal of the eye

What is the prognosis for a retinoblastoma?
A
99% 5-year survival
