ISFSI Flashcards

Q

What are the big picture steps for ISFSI campain from loading MPC to storing Hi-Storm?

A
  • load MPC into Hi-trac
  • place Hi-trac in SFP
  • load MPC/ Hi-trac with fuel assemblies
  • place lid on MPC and remove from SFP
  • drain and dry MPC with Helium
  • place Hi-trac in crawler via LPT
  • roll Hi-trac up hill via crawler
  • place Hi-trac on mating device over Hi-storm
  • remove bottom of Hi-trac, lower MPC into Hi-storm
  • move Hi-trac, place lid on Hi-storm
  • Place Hi-storm on ISFSI pad via crawler

Q

How are the ISFSI casks cooled on the ISFSI pad?

How is the outside of the MPC kept free from contamination when placed in SFP?

Why is Helium used to dry MPC?

A
  • Natural circulation air cooling
  • inflatable seal is placed between the top of MPC and Hi-trac and filled with DI water, water is later sampled and ensured no contamination leaked through seal
  • ensure a non-corrosive enviroment exists inside cask

Q

What are some functions of Hi-trac?

A
  • lifting capabilities (via cranes and Crawler)
  • Sheilding for workers
  • help keep MPC (outside) free from contamination
  • provides method to transfer MPC to Hi-storm (removable bottom)

Q

Before lowering Hi-trac into SFP why is it filled with Borated water?

Where are the siesmic restraints for FHD (forced helium drying)

How hot can outlet vents of casks reach on ISFSI pad?

A

So, the SFP is not diluted

U-2 cask washdown pit
