What occurs during deamination?

A
  • Removal of amino group from amino acids
  • Remaining amino acids go into cellular respiration- resulting in ATP and heat energy

What occurs during detoxification?

A
  • Liver represents the body’s filtration system- removes alcohol (poison)
  • Converts toxins into waste products, cleansing the body and metabolising nutrients and medicationn to provide the body with important proteins

A
  • Bile is produced by the liver and stored in the gallbladder, an organ directly attached to the liver
  • Bile allows liver cells to break down and recycle blood cells
