What are the monitoring and treatments of osteoporosis?
Treatment is based on treating/preventing fractures and medication to strengthen bones. Treatment depends on risk fracture, based on sex, age and DEXA scan results
* DEXA (DXA): Measures bone mineral density. Short and painless
To recover from a fracture:
* Hot/cold treatments, warm bath & cold packs
* Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation
* TENS- small battery operated device used to stimulate nerves and reduce pain
* Relaxation techniques
What are the monitoring and treatments for arthritis?
No cure but many treatments. Medication:
* Painkillers
* Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
Surgical procedures:
* Arthroplasty (joint replacement)
* Athrodesis (joint fusion)
Treatment for rheumatoid arthritis:
* Analgesics
* Physiotherapy
* Regular exercise
