Unit4- 4.3~ Components of a synovial joint Flashcards
What is the purpose of synovial joints?
To prevent friction between the articulating bones of the joint cavity
What are the components of the synovial joints?
- Hyaline cartilage
- Ligament
- Tendon
- Synovial membrane
- Synovial fuild
- Muscles
- Bone
What is the function of the cartilage?
It reduces friction and acts as a shock absorber
What is the function of the Ligament?
These are tough bands of connective tissue that connect bones to bones. They are important for joint stability and limiting motion
What is the function of the tendon?
Connective tissues that attach muscle to bone, allowing muscle contractions to move the joint
What is the function of the Synovial membrane?
It produces synovial fluid to prevent and reduce friction
What is the function of the synovial fluid?
Allows for easy movement by lubricating the joints. It also provides nutrients to the cartilage and removes waste products
What is the function of the muscle?
providing support and allowing for movement
