Q

What is the role of alveoli walls?

A

Aveoli walls has a thin lining that enables a fast diffusion of gas exchange between the air in the alveoli and the blood in the surrounding capillaries

Q

What is the structure of the alveoli walls?

A
  • Type I cells: Flat cells that allow oxygen and carbon dioxide to pass through
  • Type II cells: Produces a substance to keep alveoli from collapsing
  • Capillaries: Tiny blood vessels surrounding the alveoli for gas exchange
  • Elastic fibre: Helps alveli stretch and recoil during breathing

Q

Explain diffusion gradients

A

Gas exhange is achieved by diffusion. This is where particles move from a high concentratoin are to a low concentration are. They move down a concetration gradient the steeper the gradient is and the faster the rate of diffusion

Q

What is the role of plasma?

A

Plamsa acts as a transport medium for deliver hormones, nuntriets to our body, helping oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange.
