A
- Standards set by management
- Employees should be trained in their roles
- Employees should understand the risks specific to their workplace

Workplace hazards and risks controls (risk assessments)
A
- Help to avoid injuries, accidents minimise/eliminate risks
- Provide employees with safe and healthy working conditions
- Writtern records provides evidence that legislation is met

Fire safety
A
- Legislation requires all settings to have a fire evacuation place
- Fire plans are different for each setting
- Service users will vary with mobility
- Some need more support to evacuate will need a personal emergency evacuation plan
- Some staff may be given specific roles to assist with evacuation
- Care settings must carry out regular fire drills
- Fire alarms must be tested regularly
- Fire exists escapes must be clear

Asbestos (A fibre used in constructions)
A
- Can be found in any building built before 2000
- Causes ~5000 deaths a year
- Emplyers have a ‘duty to manage’ any asbestos in the building
- Employers must identitfy asbestos, record the location, type and condition of it. Prepare a plan to manage the risk, put the plan into action, monitor and keep it updated

A
- A policy in place to cover maintenance and safety of vehicles
- Vehicle must be insured
- Drriver must be licensed
- Seatbelts must work and be fitted
- The site must be risk assessed and stages of the jourey

Electrical safety
A
- Portable equipment should be tested regularly
- Staff make visual checks
- How to report damage and to whom

Safeguarding
A
- Must be a named person who leads on safeguarding and a deputy
- A reporting system must be in place for concerns
- Staff and service users must be aware of procedures and follow report concerns
- All staff must be DBS checked
- All staff must complete safeguarding training
- Staff must be aware of signs of abuse

Reporting of accidents
A
- All setting must have an established method for reporting accidents
- All staff should be aware how and who to report to

Food safety
A
- Ensure work surfaces amd equipment are clean
- Wash fruit and vegetable
- Use seperate chopping boards
- Check use and eat by dates

Chemical and biological health
A
- soiled linen should go in a red bag, placed in the washing machine
- Clinincal waste should go in yellow bag which will be burnt
- Needles/syringes should go into a yellow shaprt box or local council can collect.

Storage and dispensing of medicines
A
- Controlled drugs should be stored in locked cuboards
- Medicine records should be kept and maintained
- Unwanted medication must be returned to a pharmacy for disposal
- Medication must stay with an individual

- Complete self-defence training
