What are the monitoring and treatments of asthma?
- Spirometry: Shows how well lungs and airways are working
- Peak flow test: measures how fast you can blow air out of lungs in one breath
What is the medication for asthma?
Medication containing inhaled steroid which reduces inflammation and sensitivity:
* Reliver inhalers: Blue, taken when needed to relieve asthma symptoms quickly
* Preventer inhalers: Brown/orange, used daily to stop asthma from occuring
What are the monitoring and treatments of cystic fibrosis?
Monitoring:
* Chest X-Ray
* Utlrasound
* MRI
Treatment:
* Antibiotis- prevents & treats chest infections
* Medicine- Help move/prevent mucus build up and prevent infections
* Special techniques & lung devices to clear mucus
* Lung transpart if too damaged
How do you monitor emphysema?
Breathe in a machine called the spirometer after taking medication which helps widen airways
* Chest x-rays
* ECG
* Blood tests
What are the treatments for emphysema?
Medication:
* Inhalers- short/long term
* Theophylline- tablet relaxes and opens airways. 2x a day
* Surgery
* Pulmonary rehabilitation
* Mucolytic- medcations makes phlegm thinner and easier to cough
