What components make up the endocrine system?

- Pituitary glands
- Thyroid gland
- Adrenal gland
- Pancrease

What is the role of the pituitary gland?
A
- Often called master gland as it controls several hormone glands: thryoid, adrenals, ovaries, testicles
- Through secretoion of its hromones, the gland controls metabolism, growth, sexual maturation, reproduction, blood pressure

What is the role of the thryoid gland?
A
Produces hormones that regulate the bodys metabolic rate controlling heart, muscles & digestive function, brain development and bone maintenance

What is the role of the adrenal gland?
A
- Produces hormones required for a healthy life
- Prepares the body for action. E.g. increase heart rate & breathing rate
- Linked to fight or flight

What is the role of the pancreas?
A
- Craetes and releases important hormones directly into the bloodstream
- The 2 main pancreatic hormones are insulin , acts to lower blood sugar, and glucagon, acts to raise blood sugar

What are hormones?
A
- They’re chmical substances that act like messenger molecules in the body
- The endocrine system regulates how much of each hormone is released
- Endocrine hormones control mood, growth and development, the way our organs work, metabolism and reproductivity
