Q
VII
Where does the nerve arise?
Where does the nerve travel?
A
- Two separate nuclei in the medulla oblongata:
- Motor nucleus located rostral
- Parasympathetic nucleus located caudal to the motor nucleus
- Nuclei:
- Nucl. n. facialis → somatomotor
- Nucl. salviatorius rostralis → secretomotor
- Nucl. tractus spinalis n. trigemini → somatosensory
- Nucl. tractus solitarii → special sensory
- These two nuclei unite to form the roots of the n. facialis and joined by sensory fibers from ggl. geniculate
- Travels in the canalis facialis
