Topic 16: Urinary System - Bladder and Urethra Flashcards
What is the mucosa of the urinary bladder made of?
- transitional epithelium with Rugae
what is the submucosa of the urinary bladder made of?
- none
- lamina propria connected directly to muscularis externa
what is the muscularis externa of the urinary bladder made of?
- detrusor muscle - smooth muscle, 3 layers
What is the adventitia/serosa of the bladder located?
adventitia - anterior. posterior, inferior
serosa - superior
What structures of the urinary bladder are internal?
- ureters and urethra opening
What is a trigone?
- triangle of 2 ureters (posterior) and urethra openings
What is the structure of a trigone?
- mucosa lacks rugae (smooth) to allow openings to remain in a fixed position
what is the mucosa of a urethra made of?
- transitional to stratified squamous
What is the muscularis externa of the urethra made of?
- smooth muscle
What do urethra contain?
2 sphincters that both surround proximal end of urethra
what is the structure of the internal urethral sphincter? (2)
- smooth muscle
- thickening of detrusor muscle at the base of bladder u can hold pee in
what is the structure of the external urethral sphincter? (2)
- skeletal muscle
- in urogenital diaphragm
what is the function of the urethra in both males and females?
females - transports urine
males - transports urine and semen
Please memorize diagram of filtrate movement
