Malcoms ontological argument Flashcards
What was the sum of Malcolms argument?
He retejed Anselm first form , but believed Anselm second argument was successful
If God doesn’t exist today he never will
If god does exist today, he will always exist because he is necessary
Gods existence is not impossible, therefore God existence is necessarily
What did Malcolm acknowledge?
His arguments wouldn’t convince atheists but would convience theists in understanding more about God and the necessity of God existence. But this does reduce the theory of the ontological argument.
What did Malcolm say about his argument?
“I can imagine the theist going through the argument, being convinced of its validity, acutely defending it against objections, yet remaining an atheist “
