Chapter 15: Adaptive Immune Response - T Cell response Flashcards
1
Q
What is the function of cytotoxic T cells? (2)
A
- destroys abnormal cells
- recognizes antigens presented along with MHC I
ex. infected cells, cancer cells
2
Q
Which cells is MHC I found in?
A
ALL (in lecture)
3
Q
How are T cells activated? (3)
A
- a dendritic cell engulfs foreign antigen
- presents antigen to specific Tc cell
- Tc is activated to undergo clonal explansion
4
Q
What does T cell activation produce? (2)
A
- memory T cells
- cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLS)
5
Q
What happens when cytotoxic T lymphocytes are activated? (2)
A
- any body cell can serve as APC ( bc all cells carry MHC I)
- endogenous antigen presented on cell surface, along with MHC I
6
Q
When a CTL attaches to an abnormal cell, what does it release? (2)
A
- perforins
- granzymes
7
Q
What are perforins?
A
- enzymes that poke holes in the abnormal cell’s membrane
8
Q
What are granzymes?
A
- enzymes that induce apoptosis
