6.2.5 - T Cell Response Flashcards
What Are T Cells?
A type of white blood cell involved with the specific immune response.
Where Are T Cells Produced?
Bone marrow.
Where Do T Cells Mature?
Thymus.
What Do Mature T Cells Have?
T cell receptors.
What Are T Cell Receptors?
Are each specific to a particular type of antigen.
How Are T Cells Activated?
When they encounter and bind to their specific antigen on the surface of an antigen presenting cell.
What Could The Antigen Presenting Cell Be?
(3 Points)
~ Macrophage.
~ Infected body cell.
~ Pathogen itself.
How Do T Cells Divide & Why?
(3 Points)
~ They divide by mitosis.
~ They do this to increase in number.
~ This means that all of the daughter cells will have the same type of T cell receptor.
As T Cells Divide By Mitosis The T Cells Differentiate Into 3 Main Types Of T Cell, What Are They?
(3 Points)
~ T killer cells.
~ T helper cells.
~ T memory cells.
What Are T Helper Cells?
They release chemical signalling molecules that help activate B cells.
What Are T Killer Cells?
Bind to and destroy infected cells displaying the relevant specific antigen.
What Are T Memory Cells?
Remain in the blood and enable a faster specific immune response, if the same pathogen is encountered again.
