1.2.3 - Treatment of CVD Flashcards
What Are The Types Of Treatment For CVD?
(4 Points)
~ Antihypertensives.
~ Statins.
~ Anticoagulants.
~ Platelet inhibitors.
What Are Antihypertensives?
They work by lowering high blood pressure, which reduces the risk of atheroma’s and thrombosis.
What Acts As Antihypertensives?
(3 Points)
~ Beta blockers.
~ Vasodilators.
~ Diuretics.
What Do Beta Blockers Do?
Prevent increases in heart rate.
What Do Vasodilators Do?
Increases the diameter of the blood vessels.
What Do Diuretics Do?
Reduce blood volume by decreasing the volume of blood reabsorbed into the blood by kidneys, decreasing the volume of blood reabsorbed into the blood.
What Are Statins?
They work by lowering the blood cholesterol by reducing the amount of bad LDL cholesterol produced inside the liver therefore reducing the risk of an atheroma forming.
What Are Anticoagulants?
Work by reducing blood clotting.
What Are Platelet Inhibitors?
(4 Points)
~ Type of anticoagulant.
~ Works by reducing blood clotting.
~ Prevent clumping together of platelets.
~ E.g. Aspirin.
