A

~ Dead plants and animals, are broken down by microorganisms, known as decomposers.

~ These decomposers secrete enzymes, breaking organic molecules into smaller molecules, that they are then able to respire.

~ When these decomposers respire, they release methane and CO2 into the atmosphere.

~ Recycling carbon back into the atmosphere.
