Valve Heart Sounds And Murmurs Flashcards
What does holosystoli mean?
Murmur is audible throughout systole but may not obscure heart sounds. It is used interchangeably with pansystolic.
What do misystolic murmurs indicate?
It begins just after S1 and terminates before P2 Obstruction to ventricular flow, associated with aortic or pulmonary stenosis
What murmur does stenosis of the aortic valve produce?
Systolic murmur, as blood is ejected through narrowed orifice.
What murmur does regurgitation of the aortic valve produce?
Diastolic murmur as blood flows backward through diseased valve when ventricular pressures drop during relaxation.
Early Diastolic decrescendo murmur
What murmur does stenosis of the pulmonary valve produce?
Systolic murmur, as blood is ejected through narrowed orifice.
What murmur does regurgitation of the pulmonary valve produce?
Diastolic murmur as blood flows backward through diseased valve when ventricular pressures drop during relaxation.
What murmur does mitral stenosis produce?
Low pitched Diastolic murmur as blood travels through the valve during diastole.
It is a low pitched diastolic murmur best heard at the apex with an opening snap and S1 sound
What murmur does mitral regurgitation produce?
Systolic murmur best heard at apex of the heart, radiating to left axillary. S3 heart sound is also present.
When is S3 heart sound heard?
Left ventiruclar failure
Constrictive pericarditis
Mitral regurgitation
When is S4 heart sound heard?
Aortic stenosis
Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyoapthy
Hypertension
What is a ventiruclar septal defect assoicated with?
Chromosome disorders like Down’s syndrome, Edward’s and Patau. T can result in aortic regurgitation and eisenmenger’s compex.
What sound is produced with ventiruclar septal defect?
Pan-systolic murmur
