WHAT ARE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF FULL TIME?
Ongoing employment
38hours per week
Entitled to all of the conditions of national employment standards
NES = maximum number of hours of work per week, paid annual and personal sick leave, public holidays and notice when loosing job
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF FULL TIME?
Advantage:
- Consistency work
- Job security
- Entitlements
Disadvantage:
- Don’t get paid outside of working hours eg overtime
WHAT ARE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF PART TIME?
- Work less than 38hours per week
- Work the same set of hours each week
- Entitled to the same NES but on pro rata basis → depending on the number of hours worked
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF PART TIME?
Advantage:
- Entitled to NES conditions
Disadvantage:
- Workload outside of pay
WHAT ARE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF CASUAL EMPLOYMENT?
- No regular hours of work
- Paid based on the number of hours they work
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF CASUAL EMPLOYMENT?
Advantage:
- Paid a higher rate → 17% on top of base
- Flexible working hours
- Paid for every hour of work eg overtime
Disadvantage:
- Not paid sick or annual leave
- Unguaranteed ongoing work
WHAT ARE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF CONTRACT EMPLOYMENT?
- Employment on the basis of a legally binding contract, with specific terms and conditions
- For a certain period of time and then ceases to exist eg builder renovating kitchen
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF CONTRACT EMPLOYMENT?
Advantage: - Can negotiate pay Disadvantage: - Jumping from contract to contract - Can be seasonal eg harvesting pineapples
