WHAT IS AN AWARD?
Legal documents that contain the minimum employment entitlements for specific workers or industries
Used as a benchmark for assessing enterprise agreements
Do not cover employees who are employees under an agreement
Fair work commission has the responsibility for making and varying awards
WHAT IS AN AGREEMENT?
Formalised individual workplace agreements negotiated by the employer and employee
Coming to a mutual ground where everyone’s needs are met
Valid for 5 years
Individually written documents on the terms and conditions of employment between the worker and employer
An agreement can override employment conditions except WHS, compensation or training
Eg work from home 1 day a week
Eg instead of taking lunch break → leave 30min earlier at end of day
WHAT IS A CONTRACT?
Can be written or verbal
Means you are classified as an employee rather than a contractor and therefore have particular rights available to you
Most people on contract
Can include information about how you will be payed, title, work duties
