The Suprarenal Glands Flashcards
How are the suprarenals peritonised?
What are the two parts of the suprarenal glands?
Cortex and medulla
What does the cortex arise from embryologically?
Mesodermal epithelium
What does the medulla arise from embryologically?
Neuroectoderm
What is the superior suprarenal artery a branch of?
The inf. phrenic artery
What is the middle suprarenal artery a branch of?
Aorta
What is the inferior suprarenal artery a branch of?
Renal artery
What does the suprarenal vein on the right side drain into?
IVC
What does the suprarenal vein on the left side drain into?
Left renal vein
What are the three distinct zones of the cortex?
Zona glomerulosa
Zona fasciculata
Zona reticularis
Identify the three cortex zones
Notes :-
- Zona glomerulosa is very thin and closest to capsule
- Zona fasciculata is the thickest and in the middle
- Zona reticularis is at the bottom and is thicker than glomerulosa
What does the glomerulosa secrete?
Mineralcorticoids (aldosterone)
What does the fasciculata secrete?
Glucocorticoids (cortisol)
