Where does the scalp extend anteriorly to?
Te eyebrows
Where does the scalp extend posteriorly to?
Superior temproal line
WHat bone is the superior nuchal line a part of?
Occipital bone
What bones form the zygomatic arch?
Zygomatic bone and temporal bone
What joint is present between the zygomatic bone and temporal bone?
Suture (fibrous)
What are the 5 layers of the SCALP?
Skin
Connective tissue
Apooneurosis of the occipitofrontal muscle
Loose areolar connective tissue
Pericranium
What does the trigeminal nerve supply?
Anterior part of the scalp
All 3 branches of the nerve
Opthalmic
Maxillary
Mandibular
What supplies the posterior half of the scalp?
Cutanous branches of the cerical spinal nerve C2 and C3
What structure does spinal neres C5-T1 form?
Brachial plexus
In which layer of the scalp are blood vessels present?
Dense connective tissue layer and loose areolar connective tissue layer
Lacerating wounds of the scalp would cause the dense connective tissue (layer 2) of scalp to retract preventing vasoconstriction of arteries. Would wounds to the scalp bleed profusely or sparingly? Explain your answer.
Bleed profusely – the second layer of scalp is dense connective tissue & the third layer is the aponeurosis of the occipitofrontalis muscle. The resting tone of this muscle plus the fact that there is dense connective tissue just above means that if a small blood vessel is cut then it cant contract very easily = bleeding profusely.
