Endocrine Histology Flashcards
Adrenal gland
Left most side you can see the capsule
Then you can see glomerulosa- Part of kidney. Quite rounded
Zona fasiculata- look like fascicles
Then criss cross cells- zona reticularis
Anterior pituitary
Yellow things on the left- RBCs
Parathyroid hormone
Sometimes see cells clumped up with you don’t see in the anterior pituitary
Chief cell- Bluey puink
Blood vessles
Oxyphil cells- Pinker cells
Glial cells
Capillaries
Posterior pituitary
Very uncharacteristic of an endocrine- That’s because they just release into blood stream
Oxyphils and adh secreted
Parathyroid gland
Chief cells and oxyphils which are pinker and the capillaries
Thyroid on the outside whiter area
Anterior pituitary gland
Can see pink cells- acidophils
Darker staining- Basophils
Niot stain so well- Chromophones
Bigger red bits are capillaries
Thyroid
Cells can be cuboidal or more columnar
Once it produces T3 or T4 it becomes more elongated again
C cells/parafollicular- Secretes calcitonin
Pancreas
Islet of Langerhans- around that can see the acinar cells (pancreatic exocrine- serous secretory)
3 different islets int this image
This is not an endocrine glands- these are neatly arranged
Acini cells- dark cells
Adipose- clear
Can even see secretory granules- parotid gland
Anterior pituitary- Mass of cells with capillaries
Some of them are random but some of them are clumped together
Therefore anterior pituitary
Adrenal cortex- Zoomed in
At the top is the capsule
Zona glomerulosa
Then zona fasiculata
Then at the bottom the zona reticularis
