Posterior Forearm Flashcards
What are the posterior forearm groups?
1) Muscles that extend and abduct or adduct the hand at the wrist joint
2) Muscles that extend the medial four digits
3) Muscles that extend or abduct the thumb
What is the action of extensor carpi radialis longus and brevis on the wrist joint?
They both hand extension and hand abduction the wrist joint.
What other action are they involved with the help of flexor carpi radialis?
They cause Radial deviation of the wrist
What muscles extend and adduct the hand at the wrist joint?
What muscles extend the medial four digits?
What is the extensor digitorum?
Is an extensor of the fingers and of the wrist and arises from common extensor origin on the lateral epicondyle of the humerus.
Where does the extensor digitorum fleshy muscle belly run?
Distally it ducks under the extensor retinaculum, and divides into 4 tendons for the fingers
Muscles that extend or abduct the thumb
Abductor pollicis longus (APL)
Extensor pollicis brevis (EPB)
Extensor pollicis longus (EPL)
What is the supinator?
This muscle envelops the neck and the proximal part of the shaft of the radius, covering it completely, except on its medial side
What is the action of supinator?
Supination of the forearm when the elbow is extended
What is the extensor digitorum, extensir carpi radialis longus, extensor carpi radial brevis, brachiorafialis, extensor carpi ularis, supinator and extensor diti minimi?
Radial nerve
What is the main action of the extensor digitorum?
Extend medial 4 digits at MCP joints
What is the main action of the extensor carpi radfialis longus?
Hand extensiona nd hand abduction
What is the main action of the brachioradialis?
Forearm flexion when semi pronated
