What is it?
A
A tubular structure 2” long, 2 ft above IC valve in 2% of people due to incomplete regression of the vitello (Intestinal valve)

Who gets Meckel’s diverticulum?
A
Patients who have has incomplete regression of vitello intestinal duct, may contain heterotopic gastric mucosa

How does it present?
A
- Before 2> y/o
- Commonly asymptomatic
- Painless rectal bleeding in toddlers
- Diverticulitis in adults
- May cause bleeding and perforation or diverticulitis mimicking appendicitis
- 50% have gastric mucosa which secrete HCL and Peptic ulcers

How is Meckel’s Diverticulum removed?
A
Surgical removal (laproscopically)

A
Bleed
Ulcerative
Obstruction
Malignant change
