How does it present?

A

Corrugated (spotty) oesophagus

Long history of dysphagia, food impaction, heartburn and oesophageal pain

How is it diagnosed?

A
  • pH probe negative for reflux
  • Increased eosinophils in blood
  • Endoscope abnormalities (mucosal furrowing, loss of vascular pattern due to thickened mucosa)
  • Endoscopic forceps biopsies should be taken throughout the oesophagus for histology and eosinophillic number calculated
