How does a chronic GI bleed present?
A
Usually with iron deficiency anaemia
Chronic blood loss producing iron deficiency anaemia in all men and women after menopause is due to bleeding from GI tract

A
Cancer: stomach or right colon
Coeliac disease

How is chronic GI bleed diagnosed?
A
- Upper GI endoscopy (first)
- Colonoscopy follows
- Unprepared CT scanning
- CT colonography (colonoscopy alternative)

How is it treated?
A
Treat cause
-Oral iron to treat anaemia
