Genetic material surrounded by a protein shell, using the host’s cell to reproduce
They infect all types of life

Single-called organisms
Some cause diseases, some do not
Essential to life (ex. bacteria in gut)

Absorb nutrients from their surroundings (yeast, molds)
Some are pathogenic, others are not

Not all are pathogenic, but are aggressive to those with a weak immune system
